Our Canals and our Day Boats

Originally our canals were built for transport and were a busy, horse-drawn highway. Today our waterways have a new role providing leisure and relaxation.

From our wharf near Weedon there is an idyllic cruise along the Grand Union Canal through pretty Northamptonshire countryside. A tranquil waterway without any canal locks to negotiate and a relaxing day ahead on one of our day boats with family and friends. There are opportunities to stop for lunch at canal side pubs etc. We will provide details if you are thinking of booking a table or bring a picnic and stop anywhere along the way. 

You can either take the day boat self-steer or book a skippered cruise. Skippered, we offer a variety of cruises: For the full day, 9 to 5, so you can just sit back and relax or if you are new to boating and would like to try a day’s ‘taster’ informally learning the basics. We also run 2 hour evening Fish & Chips cruises and Christmas Cruises, dates and availability for these are always posted on our Facebook page.

Boat Building and Repair

At our small-holding we offer a repair service for canal craft.

A lot of the day-to-day work is the repair of more modern, welded steel narrowboats. We will undertake over-plating. We take on some restoration and repair work of historic narrow boats 

We can arrange for your boat to have a hull survey. We can make an informal hull inspection for you, or we can arrange for a qualified surveyor to inspect your boat.

We can also arrange for a Boat Safety examiner to inspect your boat at our yard.
